Francine Fournier was Professor of Political Science at the Université de Montréal from 1965 to 1973 and at the Université du Québec à Montréal from 1970 to 1973, mainly in the fields of research methodology and political behaviour. She is a research associate at the University of Ottawa Human Rights Research and Education Centre.
She was the founding Secretary-General of the Québec Status of Women Council (1973-1976) and Research director, then President, of the Québec Human Rights Commission (1976-1985).
Ms. Fournier was the Secretary-General of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (1988-1990) and Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for the Social and Human Sciences Sector (1990-2001). She is currently the president of the multipartite committee of the National Reconciliation Program for Duplessis Orphans (2001-2003; 2007- ).
